Hinata has dark blue hair in a hime-cut style, with chin-length strands framing each side of her face, and fair skin and is usually seen with a timid and shy expression. Like the rest of her clan, she possesses the infamous Byakugan eyes.

During Part I, she wore a pale hooded jacket that had a fire symbol on the upper right and left sleeves, and navy blue pants. Since she became a Genin, she wore her Konoha forehead protector around her neck. During Part II, Hinata becomes a Chūnin, She let her hair grow to waist-length, and now wears a white-lavender jacket with navy pants with black sandals. She still wears her forehead protector around her neck, though the cloth has changed to black in color.

Byakugan

The Byakugan (白眼; Viz "Evil Eye" or "All Seeing White Eye"; Literally meaning "White Eye") is a Dōjutsu Kekkei Genkai, a genetic trait, that is shared amongst the members of the Hyūga Clan. Those that inherit the blood of this clan have almost featureless white eyes (Neji's and Hinata's eyes seem to have tints of lavender and blue-grey, respectively). Although it is not stated directly, it is assumed that all members of the Hyūga family possess the Byakugan. It has been said that the Sharingan is a genetic offshoot of the Byakugan.

Just like the Sharingan, the Byakugan can also be transplanted into another person, as Ao of Kirigakure did so. Transplanted Byakugan eyes can be activated and deactivated at the user's will, unlike the Sharingan which is always active.

Their potent abilities make Byakugan eyes highly coveted by the other villages. As evidenced by Kumogakure's attempt to steal it and Kirigakure efforts to protect their only Byakugan.

Abilities
The Byakugan's View.The Byakugan is the primary focus of the Hyūga's special arts. When the Byakugan is activated, their pupils become more distinct, and the veins near their temples bulge.

The first ability of the Byakugan gives the user a near 360º field of vision, except for one blind spot at the back of the neck above the third thoracic vertebra.

The second ability is having the ability to see through solid objects, and can use a degree of telescopic sight. The distance and the degree of telescopic sight varies from person to person. In Part I, Neji Hyūga was able to see an area of 50 meters, but later he increases his visual range to at least 800 meters, while Hinata Hyūga's range in Part II stretches at least as far as 10 km. During the hunt for either of the Uchiha brothers, Hinata was shown to be able to view Amaterasu's flames, and the chakra in the area, from ten kilometers away. However, the Byakugan cannot see through certain barriers, such as the Four Black Fog Battle Formation used by the Sound Four.


However, the third and one of the greatest uses of the Byakugan is the ability to see chakra, as well as the chakra circulation system inside another's body. It is from this particular ability that they are able to employ their ultimate attack style: Gentle Fist. Unlike the Strong Fist, which is focused on external injuries, the Gentle Fist style focuses on internal injuries. Each strike, when placed correctly, strikes along the Chakra Pathway System, which is the network of vessels that carry chakra. This network is closely intertwined with the functioning of the body's organs, and so, when the keirakukei take damage, the organs suffer as well. There is no defense against the Gentle Fist, since one cannot train one's internal organs to become stronger. The only possible defense is to stop the Gentle Fist's hits from connecting.

Particularly skilled users of the Byakugan, which appear only rarely, such as Neji Hyūga, can take the Gentle Fist style one step further. Along the keirakurei are 361 pinprick-sized nodes called Tenketsu, or chakra points. When struck, the Byakugan user can choose to either seal, or forcibly open these Tenketsu, thus giving the user complete control over their opponent's chakra system. So, with precision, all those points along the victim's body can be sealed, stopping the chakra flow to those areas. Neji Hyūga is the rare exception, having taught himself the ultimate Hyūga technique, Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, along with Hinata Hyūga, who, while not able to do 64 palms like Neji, is able to do Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms, a slightly weaker version of Neji's. In his battle against Kidōmaru, Neji attacked with Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms, albeit only in the anime. Able to strike without force, and yet do more damage to a ninja than some of the most powerful ninjutsu, the Gentle Fist is the greatest taijutsu style known in all of Konohagakure.

Sometimes the users of Byakugan make some hand seals when activating the ability, though it is also able to activate without any seals. The used seals are: Horse, Tiger, Boar with nearly straightened fingers, Hare, Rat, Dog, Horse, Dog, Hare, Tiger with lifting just index fingers, Rat, Boar with nearly straightened fingers, Dog and Snake with the right index finger lifted straightly. Sometimes just the last seal is used, and most commonly no seals are used.

The Byakugan eye:

The normal eye for a Hyuuga clan member differs from a normal human eye. The iris and pupil are barely discernable with both appearing a milky white in color. The pupil itself is larger than a typical humans and it is outlined by a black region. The sclera remains normal except the larger size of the pupil reduces ones ability to view it.

Once the eye is fully activated, the hidden iris becomes more apparent. Also when providing blood and chakra for the eyes' bloodline vision, veins will bulge lateral to each eye

Jutsu

Chakra Needle Technique

Description: After focusing chakra outside the body, the chakra is formed into needles and propelled at the user's target. By using Byakugan, this technique can be used to hit very small targets, such as bees.

Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms
Type: Ninjutsu, Kekkei Genkai
Range: Short range
Class: Offensive
Description: The Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms technique is a maneuver of the Gentle Fist fighting style. It is essentially a halved version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, but seems to be no less effective. This technique is used to close off the flow of chakra through thirty-two chakra points of an opponent's Chakra Pathway System. This eliminates their ability to use chakra for quite some time and makes it difficult for them to move.

Once someone is within range of her field of divination, Hinata assumes her Gentle Fist stance (see picture) and begins to deliver her attack:

Four-Corner Sealing Barrier

Description: This technique is designed by Tsunade to seal demons. It is performed with four separate scrolls and a sample of blood similar to a Summoning Technique. Shizune mentioned that good chakra control and concentration is needed to perform the sealing technique. To use this technique, a scroll is needed to seal the numerous amounts of chakra. This technique is apparently supposed to seal the Three-Tailed Giant Turtle in its own dimension, permanently. This jutsu has three stages: a "Search" stage, a "Bind" stage, and a "Lock" stage in capturing the target.

Gentle Fist
Type: Kekkei Genkai, Taijutsu, Fighting Style

Description: The Gentle Fist style of combat is based on palm strikes and generally aims to damage the body's Chakra Pathway System, thus creating difficulty by inhibiting an opponent's use of chakra. To do this, the user will forcefully insert a small amount of their own chakra into an opponent's chakra pathway system. The chakra can then be used to rupture or divert chakra flow, preventing them from using jutsu. It was also commented by Neji Hyūga that any chakra-based substance can be destroyed by putting chakra in it with his Gentle Fist. Also, as noted by Kidomaru, this is done by using the chakra openings in one's hands to reform chakra into a needle-like shape to cut through chakra. It is unknown if this can be done by any Gentle Fist user or just those who see the tenketsu. It can also be used to attack the opponent's internal organs, to which the chakra pathway system is closely tied. Even the slightest tap from this style can cause major damage, hence the name "gentle fist." Because the chakra pathway system is invisible, the Byakugan is required for this style to be used effectively. Since the Byakugan is unique to the Hyūga clan, it has become their signature style of combat.

Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists

Description: The user forms two large lion-like shrouds of chakra around their hands, then thrusts them forward at the opponent. The jutsu seems to be performed in a spinning manner to confuse and throw off the opponent's aim.

Protection of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms
Type: Kekkei Genkai, Taijutsu
Range: Short to Mid range
Class: Supplementary
Description: Created by Hinata, this jutsu allows her to emit a constant stream of chakra from her palms, creating extremely sharp chakra blades. With her natural flexibility, Hinata can reach any point around her, allowing her to hit any target within her field of vision. While using this jutsu, Hinata moves extremely fast (her movements become a blur), allowing her to hit hundreds of targets with extreme precision, much like the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. It is so precise that it can cut smaller targets (like bees) in half. Additionally, Hinata can control the size of the chakra beams in her palms, allowing her to create larger, arc-shaped chakra beams that spread out across her entire attack range.

With the addition of Hinata's flexibility, the technique creates an "absolute defense" effect similar to that of the Eight Trigrams Palms Heavenly Spin, though the cutting nature of the chakra prevents any outside force from restricting it. In this way, the technique can be used as both an offensive and defensive maneuver.
